Michaels recommendations for the holidays…

Big, deep, thick color one would expect from a wine that is 58% Petite Sirah. The aromas are concentrated ripe black fruits; currants and cassis. The bouquet is full of smoky, roasted, chocolaty oak. The flavors are big and rich, full of caramel, chocolate and mocha. But this wine also delivers a strong fruit component of ripe blackberries. Smooth and supple with deep color and intensity of flavors.

 El Cortijillo Tempranillo

Favorite value red of the year! Juciy, jammy, bright red fruit….raspberrys, cherrys, this wine will pair with any meal.

Emeritus William Wesley Pinot Noir

Being the Pinot-phile that I am, this wine absolutely blew me away! Feminine and delicate, strawberrys, cherrys, and raspberrys. This complex, varietally correct wine will please any lover of Pinot Noir. Best Pinot of the year.

Giesen Marlsborough Riesling

Crisp, delicious, light, not too sweet. A perfect way to start the meal or finish the evening, from apitizers to the main course, to desert. This wine can go the distance. Not your grandma’s Riesling! 

Novellum Chardonnay

First taste I would not have thought this wine was a Chardonnay. Fremented on Viognier lees, creates tropical flavors not normally associated with Chardonnay. Bright acidity, tart green apple, and a lushness make this unoaked Chard a winner in my book. Enjoy on its own or with your holiday meal. Crab a particularly good choice.

Amplexus Toad Hollow Sparkling Wine

Overwhelming favorite of Bubbles & Bivalves this year! This bubbly pleases any and all. Great way to start the holidays.

Schramsberg Brute Rosé

The guys and girls at Schramsberg really know bubbles! Year in year out Schramsberg Rose is my go-to bubbles.

Peju ’09 Napa Valley Cabernet 

Lush,  rich and intriguing, this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon affirms the terroir for this particular varietal. Opulent flavors of blackberry and cassis and  raspberry preserves reveal hints of clove, cedar, violets, cinnamon and brown sugar, and cocoa nibs. Voluptuous body, bright acidity, elegant, ripe fruit, lush tannins and a long finish make this an excellent wine.

Rusack Santa Barbara Anacapa

Rusack does it again! This big bold red wine had me from the minute the cork was pulled. This bordaux blend will rival any Napa Cabernet. Dark fruit flavors, intense and complex. Don’t let the name fool you.

Atamisque Chardonnay

Wow! This wine is for those who truly love Chardonnay. Perfectly balanced, fruit, oak, acid all in harmony makes me believe in Chardonnay again. Pears, apple and melon create a wine that can be enjoyed by itself or with the classic holiday dinner.

Colomé Torrontes

Favorite white wine of the year. This wine comes from high in the Andes. Altitude creates flavors and intensity not typical of Torrontes. Complex and unique in every way and dry as a bone. Melon, stone fruit, and crisp acidity made me stand up and applaud.  Pair with turkey or ham and be amazed.

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Riesling

Once you get past the name this wine will tickle your toes! Crisp, clean, and delicious. Classic German Mosel Riesling. With only 8.5% alcohol, its a nice choice at the end of the evening. Fruit sweetness, blooming honeysuckle, and perfectly ripe apricot. Great with the cheese course, baked pear or apple pie. Or enjoy on its own.

Terramia Prosecco

Light delicious and affordable! This wine was the value sparkling wine of the year. Nice alternative to the typical champagne.

Italian Bubbles Rose

Yum and fun describes this wine! Not too serious and not too sweet. Take to a party or at 10am. This is the no guilt bubbles.
