New Belgiums Lips of Faith Heavenly Feijoa Tripel
When Mike told me I need to try New Belgiums Lips of Faith Heavenly Feijoa Tripel with hibiscus flowers and Feijoa, (also known as pineapple guava), I had my doubts. I don’t like flavored coffees, mint chocolate mocha lattes and in general any attempts to improve on an already good thing. Beer should be beer, although I tend to like more hops than most, triple IPA and such…
But this was not too bad. It did have some of the sweet notes that hibiscus would impart, but none of the sickly sweet I would associate with guava. There was tartness in the floral and solid beer in the background.
I wouldn’t drink it in the middle of winter in front of the fire, but sitting in the patio at Main Street cellars on a spring or early summer afternoon? Heck yea! This would be a good choice to introduce a bigger bodied seasonal craft beer to someone who thinks of beer as watery and tasteless. The floral is delicate enough to enjoy the beer, and the beer behind it is good. This is a good spring beer!
